The Father
Content to be migrated from current SquareSpace site and refined.
In the culture of Jesus’ time, a patriarch never ran. Running was beneath his dignity. Yet this father runs to the younger son — and goes out to plead with the older son.
But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion for him; he ran to his son, threw his arms around him and kissed him.
— Luke 15:20
The father’s response to both sons is the same: extravagant, undignified love. This is hesed — steadfast, covenant love that doesn’t depend on the son’s behavior.
